Bradley Calobrace

Chairman of Beauty Through Science

Dr Bradley Calobrace, MD, FACS Dr. Calobrace is a graduate of Indiana University Medical School and completed residencies in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Subsequently, he completed a cosmetic and breast surgery fellowship with Dr. G. Patrick Maxwell and began practice in Louisville, Kentucky in 1997. He has dual clinical faculty appointments with the Departments of Plastic Surgery, at the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky and received teaching honors in 2007, 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Dr. Calobrace also has started an Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship to begin July 2019. Dr. Calobrace is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and member of American Society of Plastic Surgeons and American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He has a thriving cosmetic surgery practice, performing approximately 1000 major cosmetic procedures each year, including facial surgery, body contouring, breast surgery, hair transplantation and post-bariatric rejuvenation. Dr. Calobrace is considered one of the leaders in the field of cosmetic breast surgery today in the United States performing over 400 breast surgeries per year. He has participated in multiple FDA clinical breast studies and has been a consultant and speaker for Allergan, Mentor and Sientra. Dr. Calobrace lectures extensively in the US and Internationally, is an ASAPS traveling professor, chairs the BIA-ALCL committee for ASAPS, performed live surgery at the 2009, 2014, 2016 and 2019 Atlanta Breast Symposium and 2018 Advanced Aesthetics Meeting in St Petersburg Russia. He also has published extensively on the subject of aesthetic breast surgery and his recent publication in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal entitled, “The Safety of Smooth and Textured Silicone Breast Implants” was the recipient of the Best Journal Article Paper award for ASJ 2018.

Per Heden

Founder & Co-Chair of Beauty Through Science

Dr. Per Hedén was born in Stockholm, Sweden 1951. After completing medical training in Stockholm at the Karolinska Institute he entered his plastic surgery training program in 1978. Dr. Hedén was subsequently one of the driving forces in establishing microsurgery in the region and this led to the first microsurgical operation in Stockholm, performed in 1981. After completing his plastic surgery training in 1982, he held a plastic surgery position in Australia. He subsequently pursued plastic surgery research in the United States, first in Springfield, Illinois, and later at Harvard University in Boston. His research, which dealt mostly with blood circulation and metabolism in skin flaps, led to his thesis, “Monitoring techniques and animal models as guides for free flap surgery,” in 1988. After continuing his research he achieved, and still holds, an Associate Professorship at the Karolinska institute in 1990. He became the head of the microsurgery unit at Sabbatsbergs Hospital in 1990. He still has a devoted interest for microsurgical repair of facial paralyses and patients from all of Sweden are sent to Dr. Hedén for this kind of surgery.

Over the years he has published more than 50 scientific papers and also a number of chapters in plastic surgery textbooks. He has also been, and continues to be, an advisor for young plastic surgeons doing research.

In 1991 he founded Akademikliniken together with Jan Jernbeck, which today is Northern Europe’s largest private plastic surgery hospital. Today, more than 60 000 procedures are performed per year at Akademikliniken. At Akademikliniken a world leading experience in the use of anatomical high cohesive silicone breast implants has been gained. Dr Hedén has developed new techniques applying to the use of these devices and he has held a large number of international workshops and lectures on this subject. He has also been invited to many countries where he has performed operations to demonstrate his techniques. Dr Hedén has also been invited as honorary lecturer to speak on the subject of facial aesthetic surgery. Dr. Hedén sits on the review board for doctoral theses in plastic surgery and has served as faculty opponent. He is regularly called on to review papers for publication in the Scandinavian journal of plastic surgery and has been on the Board of Reviewers for International Abstracts of the American journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is also a member of the editorial board of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Journal. Dr Hedén has written the patient information book: “ Plastic Surgery and You” published in Swedish 1996. It has since also been translated and published in English and Russian. The book is richly illustrated with over 700 photographs and drawings. It is printed and sold in 10 000 copies in Sweden. The photographs of patients in this book show a few examples of what Dr. Hedén has accomplished over the years. Dr Hedén has also been the organizer and president of several international meetings among these is the plastic surgery congress Beauty through Science held each year in Stockholm.

William P. Adams

Co-Director, Surgical Program

Dr. Adams maintains a private practice in plastic surgery in Dallas, TX., and also serves as an Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. He is the program director of the UT Southwestern Aesthetic Fellowship, and the current Aesthetic Society Education
Commissioner and the President-elect.
Dr. Adams is an international authority on breast surgery/augmentation, breast implants technology including new generation devices, and soft tissue support materials, capsular contracture, and breast implant associated ALCL. He has developed new techniques for use in clinical breast implant surgery that has made breast augmentation / enlargement and breast reconstruction safer for patients. He also recently opened AYA Dallas Medical spa in Snider Plaza next to his medical office, and serves as AYAY medical director.
Dr Adams recently in 2019 completed the 2nd edition of the worlds’ only Breast Augmentation Atlas to further educate surgeons on breast augmentation surgery.
In 2009, he founded and currently serves as the CEO / President and Chief Medical Officer of The
Plastic Surgery Channel. A multi-media company on plastic surgery operated by plastic surgeons. The channel specializes in high quality doctor delivered programming in plastic surgery, and creates a novel media voice to the public.
Dr. Adams was presented the Aesthetic Society President’s Recognition Award in 2019, 2017 ASAPS Special Educator Award and the 2017 Simon Fredericks Award for best panelist at the ASAPS annual meeting. He received the teaching Award in 2005 in the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern and received the Faculty Excellence Award in 2001, and was named Department of Plastic Surgery Clinician of the Year in 1998 and 2019..

Shino Bay Aguilera

Dr. Shino Bay Aguilera is a multi-award winning, world renowned, cosmetic dermatologist, dermatologic surgeon, cosmetic laser expert, and is board certified with a fellowship in dermatology from the American College of Osteopathic Dermatology.

He is one of the top requested speakers for non-invasive Cosmetic Dermatology, lecturing internationally at the world’s biggest conferences and gatherings of Aesthetics Masters. For the past decade he has developed groundbreaking signature techniques in his multi-award-winning aesthetic medical practice in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Dr. Shino Bay Aguilera has over 17 years of advanced training in lasers and aesthetic medicine, and is a clinical researcher and published author of medical literature.

He is the former Chief Medical Director of the Dermatology Residency program at NOVA University, and Assistant Professor of Dermatology for Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Universidad del Rosario in Bogota, Colombia.

Dr. Aguilera is a top requested international physician trainer and keynote speaker for Cynosure lasers, Allergan, Galderma, MERZ, Evolus, Solta, BTL, Dermira, SkinCeuticals, and Loreal.

He is one of the top injectors of facial Sculptra in the United States and is credited with establishing this product as a baseline treatment for bone loss prevention by developing a technique that he has subsequently taught to injectors all over the world.

He is the author of “Be Youthful”, a practical guide to staying young in mind, body and spirit, and co-author of “Ethnique and Gender Considerations when Doing Fillers and Dermatologic Surgery”, two areas of his specialty with regard to facial reshaping with injectable fillers.

Patricia Ogilvie

Co-Director, Non-Surgical Program

Patricia Ogilvie graduated in medicine at the University of Würzburg, Germany with an MD thesis in clinical biochemistry. After the residency in dermatology at universities in Germany and Switzerland, she became a postdoctoral research fellow of the German Research Foundation, and spent several years in the field of immunology and cell signalling at international research institutions. Her research projects in The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) in Bellinzona, Switzerland were supervised by the Nobel prize Laureate Renato Dulbecco (ƚ). Dr Ogilvie received the German board certification for dermatology and allergology in 2003. In 2004, she founded Skin Concept Munich, which comprises two private clinics for dermatology and laser medicine. Dr Ogilvie is an international speaker and trainer for botulinum toxin and injectable fillers, a principal investigator in clinical trials, and a member of the National Guideline Conferences for Botulinum Toxin and Injectable Fillers. She shares her expertise in medical aesthetics at scientific advisory boards, and has also authored numerous scientific papers in the fields of biochemistry, immunology, clinical dermatology and aesthetic medicine. She is scientific consultant for international cosmetic companies and a media spokesperson for skin care and hair care producers. Dr. Ogilvie is member of the editorial board of several scientific journals.
Her research focus in aesthetic medicine is neuromodulators, where she participated in numerous clinical trials, novel injectable fillers, and attractiveness research. Most recently, she co-authored the pivotal Phase 3 study of BOTOX® for the treatment of forehead lines, glabellar lines and crow’s feet lines, the approval trial of a novel HA filler for chin and jawline, the pivotal trials on novel toxins as well as innovative injectable fillers and lasers/energy-based devices. She leads a research unit in her clinic dedicated to investigating novel cosmetic ingredients.She is passionate about measuring and optimising patient-reported outcomes with aesthetic treatments.
